El Pital Highlands natural reserve, San Ignacio, Chalatenango


El Pital highlands is a natural reserve owned by four brothers, the place is spectacular offering hikes to La Peña Rajada, a large rock formation, the highest point in El Salvador, where one can see into Gautamela, Hondurus and most of El Salvador, the spring where the river Sumpul starts. One can also relax and enjoy a hot chocolate, camp, or rent a small cabin and spend the night. The park is located some 4 kilemetros above Rio Chiquito. There is and entrance fee of $2.00/person and if you ask you will get a guided tour. In the afternoons one can find children of the care taker who are more than happy to guide you one one of the walks/hikes.
